New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn took a hard hit from Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur after a 20-17 overtime loss. The game ended in heartbreak, and head coach Aaron Glenn was to blame.

With the game tied at 17, all the Jets needed to do was use their timeouts properly, and maybe the game wouldn’t have gone into overtime. Of course, we’ll never know.

Green Bay Head Coach Matt LaFleur took a couple of shots at Glenn following the game. He stated, “Oh yeah, I was really confused by that. That’s why we called the timeout and tried a Hail Mary,” Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said.

Gang Green Nation reports the Jets squandered a 10-point lead during the fourth quarter, necessitating overtime. The game was tied at 17 at the end of regulation. With the Packers at the Jets’ 45-yard line, New York had two timeouts remaining. On fourth and five with 1:02 left, the Jets did not call a timeout. This decision allowed Green Bay to run out the clock and set up a final play.

LaFleur’s Confusion Over the Clock

Green Bay purposely took a delay-of-game penalty to trigger a 10-second runoff. With a rolling clock, the penalty reduced the game time to 11 seconds. The Packers then called a timeout with the game clock at two seconds. The Packers got sacked on a hail mary during the final play of regulation.

Not only did the Jets lose their biggest fourth-quarter lead in six years, but their head coach royally screwed up.

“To be honest, I’m highly upset,” Glenn said. “[It’s a] tough way to lose a game. There are a number of things that go through my head that, man, we have to fix. And it’s always tough when you feel like you were right there in the thick of it and then you didn’t overcome, and you let the other team overcome and win.

“That’s tough, but I will say this: This loss is not going to define who we are and what we’re about. I will say that. And it’s not OK. And our guys are going to take it like that. It’s not OK.”

In direct response to his terrible clock managament Glenn said, he thought Green Bay would have “punted the ball and put us in a backed-up situation right there. So that was the reason.”

Aaron Glenn made critical mistakes that cost his team dearly. The Jets are 1-1 following the loss. A 1-1 record after two games is not the start fans wanted, but the clock error is the bigger issue. Glenn has to explain why he left the timeout on the bench when the Packers were in field goal range. The team cannot afford to give opponents free shots like this again.

“This could sting for a while,” Jets guard Joe Tippmann said, “but we can’t let it sting for a while.”

The Jets didn’t just lose to Green Bay; they collapsed from the top down.
