Giants Trade For J.J. McCarthy While Cardinals Stick With Brissett

The Giants acquire J.J. McCarthy in a trade with the Vikings. Read why both New York and Arizona are sticking with their current starters for Week 4.

It started well in Week 1 when the Giants beat Dallas, but it came crashing down against the Rams.

The loss was brutal; however, it was the injuries that have everyone concerned. Losing a game is one thing; losing the game with a bevy of injuries is another.

To boot, Jaxson Dart isn’t the only big injury the Giants are dealing with. Andrew Thomas, OL, is nursing a groin injury that took him off the field, and his Week 3 status is unknown.

So the Giants decided to bring back a player whom they just released about a week ago in order to get more depth on the offensive line.

“The Giants are signing OL Ryan Schernecke back to their practice squad after releasing him last week. He’d been with the team since signing as an undrafted free agent in April,” Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported in a post on X.

At 6-foot-8, Schernecke is a giant who, if he can develop as the season moves on, could be a nice piece of the puzzle later in the season when the starters need a break.

Meanwhile, the injuries have stacked up, leaving Harbaugh in a pickle. Along with Dart and Thomas, Malik Nabers and Brian Burns went down, and Deonte Banks didn’t even suit up against the Rams.

To make things even more difficult, Harbaugh confirmed that Dart is out for the season after suffering severe damage to his MCL, PCL, and meniscus. According to Adam Schefter, the meniscus is the main culprit.

Cam Skattebo seemed to be holding back a little emotion when he was asked about Dart’s injury.
