Yankees Center Field Dilemma Points To Oneil Cruz Trade

The Yankees face a tough offseason with few center field options. Analysis shows a trade for Oneil Cruz is the only real path forward for the team.

The New York Knicks are focused on defending their 2026 title, but the front office is playing a dangerous game with the roster. While the team stays focused on winning right now, the lack of immediate contract talks for Karl-Anthony Towns could backfire. You can’t just ignore a superstar’s future while you’re busy celebrating a championship parade.

The math simply doesn’t work for everyone. Keeping a deep, expensive roster is hard when the owner, James Dolan, won’t let the spending get out of hand. If the Knicks don’t secure Towns with a massive extension soon, other teams are ready to pounce.

Potential Suitors Are Watching New York

The league is already circling. Heavy.com reports that the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Clippers are considered top teams likely to pursue Towns later. Stefan Bondy of the New York Post evaluated the market, stating, “Only a few possible suitors stand out to me right now in terms of cap space teams and fit.” Chicago and the Clippers have the cleanest path, Bondy wrote.

It is a scary thought for any Knicks fan. The Bulls are rebuilding but have young talent, while the Clippers are in a tough spot after cutting ties with Kawhi Leonard. Even the Brooklyn Nets, Dallas Mavericks, and Golden State Warriors are listed as potential threats, per Heavy.com.

The Battle for the Final Roster Spot

The roster is almost set, but one spot remains a massive headache. The team needs depth, yet the money makes it difficult to sign whoever we want. Right now, the Knicks are deciding between James Wiseman and Tony Bradley for that last spot.

Wiseman is looking good in preseason. He was the first non-guaranteed player to start in the first preseason game and even started in Toronto. He had a huge night against the Raptors on Tuesday, grabbing 10 rebounds and scoring 18 points on 87.5% shooting. But we can’t just rely on potential when we need proven wins.

Securing Veteran Depth Is Vital

I think the team needs the veteran presence of Brown more than a gamble on Wiseman. According to Yahoo Sports, insider James Edwards said, “I think they find a way to keep him, whether now or later,” regarding Brown joining the team. Brown brings eight years of experience and a championship ring from the 2023 Nuggets. He can help the bench stay steady if injuries hit the stars.

The Knicks could even try to grab both players if they move someone like Pacôme Dadiet in a trade.
