The New York Giants have officially pulled back from their pursuit of Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor. Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer reported on Sunday that the team withdrew an offer involving a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick. This action arrives two days before the November 10 NFL trade deadline. The decision leaves the franchise in a tough spot with their running back room in shambles.
Giants Give Up on Taylor Deal
For weeks, the front office seemed ready to pay a heavy price to land the All-Pro rusher. Taylor has rushed for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2025 after signing a 2-year, $44 million extension. The Giants needed that kind of production after Cam Skattebo fumbled four times in the first five games. Skattebo was benched for a loss to the New Orleans Saints and is now listed as doubtful for Sunday. With Tyrone Tracy Jr. on injured reserve, the team had little depth to fall back on. Yet, the offer for Taylor is no longer on the table.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Sunday morning that the Colts and Giants did not have much contact this week. “A lot of people are wondering about the Giants,” Schefter said on Sunday morning. The silence suggests the Colts are waiting for a better bid or simply holding onto their best young player. The Giants may have realized the cost was too high for a player entering his final contract year.
Other Options Vanish Quickly
The Giants were not just looking at Taylor. They also explored a deal for Baltimore Ravens veteran Derrick Henry before the Ravens shut that door. Losing Henry as a backup plan forces New York to look at less proven options. “If you’re Jackson and you see your team cut ties with one of the greatest runners of a generation, what would you think?” Jones wrote. “Is that an organization invested in winning with you in 2026, 2027 and beyond?”
Once Henry was unavailable, the Giants turned their attention to another Ravens player. Schefter reported that “A league source told ESPN that the one Ravens running back that the Giants inquired about was Justice Hill.” Hill is 28 and has spent his whole career with Baltimore. His current season stats include 240 rushing yards alongside 20 catches totaling 111 yards. In the defeat against Jacksonville, he netted Baltimore’s sole touchdown via a 65-yard run.
A Deadline of Missed Chances
The front office has now seen two major targets slip away in a matter of days. Two key divisional matchups await the team against the Eagles and Commanders near the trade deadline. On Sunday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. ET, the Giants face the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in their upcoming challenge.
