The NFL is a mess of parity right now. It is exactly how the late Giants patriarch Wellington Mara wanted the league to look. More than half of the teams are either sitting at .500 or are just one game away from it. You can’t find any true escapes from the middle of the pack.

The New York Post reported that teams with 3-2 records include both the disappointed Broncos and Patriots and the thrilled Browns and Raiders. It is a wild landscape. Even the heavy hitters are stumbling. Six teams are sitting at 2-3, including the Cowboys, Eagles, and Rams.

The middle of the pack is crowded

The top of the rankings is still dominated by the 5-0 49ers and 5-0 Vikings. But look at the rest of the board. The 4-1 Bills just won a 37-34 overtime thriller against the Rams. Greg Rousseau blocked a field goal during that game. In London, the 4-1 Jaguars secured a 19-17 victory over the Eagles. That win came after Ameer Abdullah ran a 53-yard kickoff return to set up a 57-yard field goal by Cam Little.

The Chiefs are 4-0 and sitting at number two. Per reports, Kenneth Walker III has 537 rushing yards and 43 broken tackles. That is a massive workload. It puts him on pace for a single-season record. The gap between the elite and the rest is shrinking every week.

No clear favorites left

Most teams are within striking distance of the top. The Panthers are even sitting at 2-2 after a bye. It is hard to find a team that can’t catch someone else. Only a few teams are clearly tanking. The rest of the league is just trying to stay afloat.

The Giants are right in the thick of this chaos. We just fought to a 27-27 tie against the Commanders on Sunday, October 11. We have a chance to move up. The Saints come to MetLife Stadium on Sunday, October 18 at 1 p.m.
