The Giants waived wide receiver Ryan Miller on Monday, per a report from Aaron Wilson, the third receiver they have moved on from this summer after Beaux Collins and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Miller never found a foothold. He worked with the third team through most of camp, played nine offensive snaps and four on special teams in the preseason opener, and got a longer look against Miami with 32 offensive snaps and six on special teams. He was targeted once and did not catch it.
“Miller was taking 3rd team reps mostly, never caught on,” Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post wrote.
He switched positions to get to the NFL
Miller was the first three-time FCS All-American in Furman history, and he did it as a tight end. He set the school record with 28 career touchdown catches and finished with 151 receptions for 2,146 yards. Tampa Bay signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and moved him to receiver at 6-2 and 221 pounds after he ran a 4.52 40-yard dash at his pro day.
He made the Buccaneers as a long shot three years running and appeared in 13 games in 2025 against a deep room. The Giants claimed him off waivers from Tampa in December and re-signed him this offseason as an exclusive rights free agent, which is the designation that gives a player no leverage and no other options.
His NFL totals are 25 games, 14 catches, 162 yards, three touchdowns and 14 special teams tackles.
The cuts aren’t finished
Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton and Calvin Austin III are the top of the depth chart for Jaxson Dart. Darnell Mooney, third-round rookie Malachi Fields and Braxton Berrios are behind them, with Berrios doubling as the return man.
That leaves Odell Beckham Jr., Jalin Hyatt, Dalen Cambre, Xavier Gipson and Isaiah Hodgins competing for whatever is left, and most projections have the Giants keeping six.
The move opens a spot on the 90-man roster. The Giants have until 6 p.m. ET Sunday, Aug. 30, to reach 53, with the preseason finale against the Jets on Friday night at MetLife.
